CHAPTER 3. MATCHING AND MARRIAGE BLESSING

A. PREPARATION FOR THE MATCHING

We need to teach our children and youth about the importance of sexual purity before marriage.

True Father’s Words

“You must conquer the body and its five senses! Will you follow physical or spiritual love? Even if you had to die ten million times, you must preserve your chastity. Women who are about to be married and all children must preserve their purity. Before marriage, you preserve purity and after marrying a true man, you must maintain chastity. Did you women understand?” (286-161, 1997.8.9) 19

“Love wants to be absolute. Absolute means there is only one, not two. Something that is absolute is eternally one. Therefore, only one man and one woman can be allowed as the partner of love. As such, God created one Adam and one Eve. How can that be denied? No one could change that.” (254-273, 1994.2.15) 20

“Protecting and guarding the chastity of men and women is the same as protecting the universe. This is because the order of love between men and women is the basis of the universe. The sexual organ is more important than the head. You cannot find the origin of true love in your head. You cannot find the origin of true life in your head. You cannot find the origin of true lineage in your head. Where is this origin, then? It is in the sexual organs. Isn’t that only too true? Everything can be found in the sexual organs – life, love, and lineage. It is the main palace of love. You can find the root of life there. It is the same in the case of the lineage. The sexual organ is the most precious part of the human body as well as the human world and history of humanity. Without it, reproduction of humankind would be impossible.” (203-104, 1990.6.17) 21

B. GUIDANCE FROM TRUE FATHER ON THE MATCHING

True Father’s Words

“When I am matching people one after another, I try not to look clearly at the contours of a person’s face, if I can. I rather look at two persons for a while, and check what kind of feeling comes. It is as if there is a measuring device for minds, and I compare the two without delay. If when I look at the two, instantly and without self-awareness, I feel as if they are becoming one, then it is precisely a match made in heaven, a perfect match. As for some other pair, they seem to break away from each other. That is not a good match. And if there is an expression of concern for each other, those two will become a very good pair after some time passes.” 22

C. GUIDANCE FROM TRUE FATHER REGARDING PARENTS’ ROLE IN MATCHING THEIR CHILDREN

After the Coronation of God ceremony January 13, 2001, True Father passed on the responsibility of matching to the parents.

True Father’s Words

“You may be thinking, ‘It is only Father who can do the matching, not us,’ however that is not so. You are all able to do the matching, because God, who is supporting me, is also supporting you, just the same.” 23

True Father made it clear that parents, not church leaders, should take the initiative in matching their children, saying, “How can you leaders take responsibility for the eternal lives of the second generation?”

True Father’s Words

“In the dispensational view, the vertical connection is eternal and therefore more important than the horizontal, which is temporal. That is why parents must be a part of the choosing of the mate. This doesn’t mean that parents should arbitrarily choose partners for their children, but rather the parents should intervene, representing heaven, in order to ensure the harmony of the vertical and horizontal relationship. This is the meaning of the Blessing.” 24
